This year, IIT Madras will conduct the GATE exam 2027. The application window will be active anytime soon, all the candidates who want to appear for the GATE exam must register themselves before the last date i.e October 5, 2026.

Candidates must note that there is no minimum qualifying percentage or CGPA to apply for the GATE exam. However they will need it while taking admission in MTech courses in IITs, NITs or GFTIs during the counselling process.

IIT Madras has allowed candidates to register and appear for two papers in GATE 2027 exam. The GATE paper combination must be selected as per guidelines released by the conducting authority. Candidates will have to pay the registration fee again to appear for second attempt in the GATE exam.

IIT Madras has not provided a specific date and time for the commencement of the GATE 2027 registration process. Candidates preparing to appear for the GATE entrance exam in February 2027 must visit the official website of GOAT or the GOAPS portal to register and apply. 

The GOAPS Registration link is expected to be activated soon. Students can follow the steps provided below to apply

• Go to the official GATE website, i.e. gate2027.iitm.ac.in
• Login using the enrollment number and password 
• Provide facial verification details
• Upload the required documents, including photographs, signatures, etc. 
• Pay the GATE exam fees

GATE 2027 registration and application process is set to commence soon. The link to apply for the entrance exam will be available on the official website gate2027.iitm.ac.in. Once activated, students can use their DigiLocker login credentials to complete the online registration and application process.

IIT Madras has delayed the registration process for GATE 2027. The application process, set to commence on August 27, 2026 has been further delayed. This is the second time that the registration process for GATE 2027 has been delayed. The revised schedule for the application process will be available online soon. 

The upcoming GATE 2027 exam would be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras). The registration process could be done on GOAPS website as well as the IIT Madras website.

Last year, GATE was conducted by IIT Guwahati.

GATE exam conducting authorites have made many changes this year for the exam. Some of the new changes are:

• Digitlocker login is mandatory to register for GATE exam
• Facial recognition and verification is important to proceed with the registration
• Exam city list has been revised. Candidates will be able to select upto 6 test cities for GATE exam
• New section, Robotics and Automation, has been introduced
• City allotment introduced. Students will be notified about their test city allotment before GATE admit card release

The details that candidates have to get ready before starting their GATE 2027 registration are as follows:

• Scanned Copies
• Educational Qualification
• Categorization/PwD Certificate – If Applicable.

GATE 2027 is a valid score for three years from the date of the announcement of the results. The candidates can use this score for pursuing post-graduate programs like M.Tech./Ph.D. at IITs, NITs, and IISc.

The exam comprises 100 marks’ papers that include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. There is negative marking for wrong answers in MCQs.

IIT Madras has launched an absolutely new paper called “Robotics and Automation” (RA) making it a total of 30 GATE papers. The RA paper includes a common paper (Part A) and specializations of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (Part B).

GATE 2027 application can be submitted through the GOAPS portal, which stands for GATE Online Application Processing System. GOAPS is a web-based application that is used for carrying out all activities associated with the GATE exam such as filling up the form, correcting it, and downloading the admit card, among others. 

The GATE rectification window will remain open from October 14 to 21, 2026 at GOAPS.

Submit a recent picture taken against a white background, the face should account for 60-70% of the picture, file format to be JPG/JPEG only, file size should range from 5 KB to 600 KB as required

It is only necessary for candidates in the OBC-NCL or EWS category to furnish only their photograph, signature, and a valid identification proof during the time of registration.

• Eligibility for appearing in the examination – Graduation Degree in any field of Science / Arts / Commerce (3 Years Course)
• Status - Third Year OR Completed

The online application process for GATE 2027 has been started on the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) website (gate2027.iitm.ac.in) run by IIT Madras. Applicants wishing to get into post-graduate courses and Ph.D. programs or recruitment into PSUs can apply through this online process. Candidates should create a DigiLocker account to apply, create their Enrolment ID, provide their personal and educational information, and choose the test papers that suit them.  The last date for submitting the applications through the normal window would be September 27, 2026.

Online registration for GATE 2027 is live on the GOAPS portal (gate2027.iitm.ac.in). Organized by IIT Madras, eligible candidates can apply using DigiLocker authentication.  The regular application window without a late fee closes on September 27, 2026. Applicants must submit their details, upload required documents, and complete online fee payments to finalize their registration.  

Application process for GATE 2027 is available through the GOAPS website. The GOAPS is the online portal for conducting all kinds of GATE examination processes including GATE form filling, corrections in GATE forms, downloading of GATE admit card and so on.

• Academic Qualification: Candidates enrolled in or above the 3rd year of their bachelor’s course or having a degree are qualified.
• Age No Bar: The test authorities impose no limit on the minimum or maximum age of the candidates.
• No Limit on Attempts: Candidates can appear in the entrance test multiple times as long as the academic criteria are met.

No. There is no age limit for GATE 2027 exam. Candidates who meet the given educational eligibility can appear for the examination regardless of their age. IIT Madras has also confirmed that there is no restriction on the number of GATE attempts.

• Check and verify all details and submit application form
• Download confirmation page
